Sinfonietta Concert

On April 22, UNG Sinfonietta will broadcast a diverse program in celebration of our graduating concertmaster, Chelsea Shankles. The concert will feature two major works from the string orchestra repertoire: Antonio Vivaldi’s Concerto for Two Violins in a A minor, with Shankles and Katelynn Black as soloists, and Ralph Vaughan Williams’s delightful Charterhouse Suite. Our harpist, Skylar Cibirka, will be featured on several numbers adapted from the vocal repertoire, including the famous “Barcarolle” from Jacques Offenbach’s The Tales of Hoffmann, “Make Our Garden Grow” from Leonard Bernstein’s Candide, and “In Paradisum” from Gabriel Fauré’s beautiful Requiem. Finally, Sinfonietta will perform a selection of familiar themes from major motion pictures, with a surprise finale. Tune in to find out! The video will start streaming at 7:30 pm on the UNG Music Department YouTube channel, and will remain available after the premiere.

A Little Night(Hawk) Music Series: Multifaceted

The 2020-2021 A Little Night(hawk) Music Concert Series continues with MULTIFACETED, the debut performance of UNG’s faculty piano trio. The group, featuring professors Dr. Joanna Kim, piano, Dr. Serena Scibelli, violin, and Dr. Philip Snyder, cello, formed in 2020 and showcases just how versatile chamber music can be.  Its members hail from three different countries: South Korea, Italy, and America, and the pieces they will perform on MULTIFACETED were composed in Argentina, France, and the USA.  Astor Piazzola’s Argentine tango-driven Four Seasons will highlight the group’s passionate virtuosity, while Gabriel Faure’s Piano Trio in D minor, op. 120 will offer the shimmery haziness of the French Impressionist style.  The concert will be rounded off by a medley from George Gershwin’s crowd pleasing opera “Porgy and Bess,” as well as a soothing, mysterious lullaby by American composer Kenji Bunch, entitled “Whispers: Lullaby for My Favorite Insomniac.”  Come join us for this virtual concert experience to be aired on Monday, November 2, 2020 at 7:30 p.m.  A link for the performance can be found on the events calendar of the UNG Music Department Website and we encourage you to pre-register your attendance for the event.
